Fascinating Animal Motifs at Dresden Zoo

The Project

Dresden Zoo wanted to make its visitor areas more vivid and educational. Our task: bring lifelike animal motifs and informative graphics onto the walls so that they delight visitors young and old while conveying knowledge – in a sensitive environment with public traffic.

A particular challenge were the dark, partly curved walls and the change between concrete and tiles. This is where direct printing pays off: it follows every curve seamlessly and adheres to the most varied substrates. We deliberately used odour-neutral, environmentally friendly ink that is safe for animals, visitors and staff alike. Three working days were scheduled for these demanding surfaces.

Today lifelike motifs guide visitors through the zoo, create photo moments and make educational content graspable at a glance – weatherproof and durable.

For public facilities with heavy footfall, wall design has to be durable, low-maintenance and safe. At Dresden Zoo, direct printing delivers on all three: the odour-neutral, eco-friendly ink is safe for animals and people, the motifs are weatherproof and abrasion-resistant, and they double as wayfinding and learning stations. The design becomes part of the visit rather than mere decoration.
